There is an
An eBook reader is available, I think, from either from Canonical or part of the Asus Eee distro- FBReader.
QUESTION: Is it possible to buy the eBooks that Amazon sells for its Kindle device (I'm not familiar with Barnes and Noble) and read them on a normal laptop?
Why carry around two devices --plus Laptop probably has bigger and better screen.
Anybody know anything about commercial eBooks and how to (buy and) read them on one's Laptop?
Any sources for this I haven't named?

PS. For those who are thinking of buying the KIndle with the $100 off PROMO's, it's my understanding a new Kindle is soon to arrive for Retail distribution. Probbly the olde Kindle will drop in price anyhow and maybe the newer K. is better.

No. The Kindle is just as locked up in DRM as the Sony reader is.
Yes, you can buy text books(or get them free from www.gutenberg.org), but Kindle formated books are encrypted so they can be read only on a Kindle.

| What do they care
. so long as you are buying their books??
10.000.000 Kindles supposed to be sold by 2010 !
So raise the price for non-kindle owners. get best of both worlds.
This DRM got to go !
Movie Companies were forced to seperate from movie theatre chains!
Imagine if they called it the DRM !
But Anti-trust laws were enforced.
Whoever controls DRM controls communication ???
Future look-out.
Actually most of best books are free ! G-burg good!
Also WikiP.
Othe sites/....my writing !
FBReader is on Eee I think. Also adobe pdf. But too small to read. So is Kindle.
Why are there 10 UMPCs but only 2 eReaders??
remember Bradbury's Feireheit 451 ?
Wait till what you read is public info !
No job if you read wrong books. |

Did you get a chance to read my question on this subject, Sky? I would consider buying a Kindle IF it had a way for me to give the book to someone after I was finished with it, but they wont let me do that(its DRMed). Besides the reader, many of the ebooks I want to buy have the same price as the printed book making it very expensive option for the "convenience". |
