Hello, I've been looking for a good gaming laptop for quite a while now (The main issue is, I live in the Netherlands, and customized laptops like the HP pavilion and Alienware laptops are not available here)
I'm using this list Notebookcheck: Comparison of Graphic Cards
To see which mobile GPU's are powerful and which are not, sadly though, I've yet to see any of the better GPU's slapped on to the laptops sold here..
The main thing I want to do with it ofcourse, is gaming. I don't care about the ULTRA HIGHEST EVAR!!1! graphics and stuff, What I'm looking for is
-15,4 Inch (Preferably, 17 is just too big for my tastes)
-Good power
-Something that will "futureproof" me for a good time..
I'm not the richest guy ever..So the futureproofing is pretty important for me, Altough a desktop is probably cheaper, being the LAN-going freak of nature that I am, I'm simply fed up with carrying around a big case and having to hook up a multitude of wires etc..
If anyone could help me with this, I'd really appreciate it

How much are you wanting to spend? Is weight an issue?
What games are you interested in? |

The spending depends, Sometimes it's possible to pay in multiple terms. I'm hoping not to spend much more then around..€1300, I suppose.
The weight is not really an issue.
The games I'm interested in are mainly RTS games such as C&C3 and Red Alert 3, But I also like to play some of the higher-end games such as Unreal 3, Devil may cry 4 and such. I don't really care about the settings required to play these, as long as I can run them nice and smooth. |

Are there any online stores that you prefer to order from? I do not know where you can order stuff from to ship to the Netherlands. If you provide a site I, and others as well, can take a look around and try to find a nice laptop in your budget. For €1300 you will be able to get a mid to high range gaming laptop, however, there still are many laptops that can not be upgraded other than the ram and hard drive.

So..After scavenging around for a affordable 15.4 inch gaming laptop, I found a system with the following specs.
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8400 2x 2,26Ghz (3MB L2-Cache)
4096MB DDR3 PC1066
320 Gigabyte, 5400rpm
WLAN Intel 4965 AGN (300Mbps)
512MB NVIDIA® Geforce™ 9800M GTS
(If there's anything else you need to know, just tell me)
It also includes a pretty nice backpack
The cost: €945
I'm wondering, is it worth it? Also, I can get a different CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P9500 2x 2,53Ghz (6MB L2-Cache)
For an additional €200..
Should I buy it, and should I get the better CPU?
Thx in advance. |

That's a pretty nice system.
The E8400 holds it's own very well. The 9800GT is basically a 8800GT card, so they are decent performers.
I personally don't see the extra €200 being worth it for the other CPU. More L2 helps, but it's performance gain is negaliable for the price. |

Hmm, I figured the €200 wouldn't be worth it..But it's important for me that this laptop "futureproofs" me a bit. Is the CPU-upgrade a definite waste of money, or considerable? |

Really that all depends I guess.
The faster cpu will help, no doubt. BUT, like I said, the performance gain is going to be very minimal for the price.
With that €200, I'd be putting it into the GPU instead of the CPU personally. Your going to hit the limit on your GPU quicker then your CPU. |

I probably would put it into the GPU, if I could. But this is the best 15.4 laptop I could find, Here in the Netherlands, customizable and affordable laptops that DON'T have to ship from the other side of the planet are very rare.. |
