That Dell you linked is a good notebook. It won't play games, but haveing a core 2 duo should help out better with 2d cad and office applications. As long as there is nothing 3d going on. | Thanks for the reply Biz
netbooks are around 900AUS. When i went to customise it, it lists a 8400GS included in the price but in the specs list it is intel accelorated.... |

Ok, I was thinking USD. The site didn't look Australian enough to me
But you are right, it does list the X3100 in the tech specs, but when you go to customize it has the 8400gs.
Either way, the 8400gs still won't be able to play games that well. It will do better than the X3100, but not by much. You would be able to play games around 4-5 years old.
Gigabyte has their M912 out. 1.6ghz Atom Dual Core, Windows XP, 80gb SSD, 1gb of DDR2, 8.9" 1280x768 screen. And it also converts into a touch screen tablet.
The cheapest one I could find for Australia is $1400 though, might be a bit to much for your budget.

What the hells that supposed to mean? The prices were a dead give away. Us aussies have enough trouble affording hardware without Americans rubbing it in.
as i have said before i have recently bought a pc that i am taking to uni with me aswell.
Intel Core2 Duo E8500
ASUS P5QL-E Motherboard
Nvidia 7600GT Graphics
4GB Corsiar dominator ram
the rest is not important...
Edit:
Just saw you updated your post..
It is a little out of my price range. $1000 will be a stretch for me as i have just bought my new PC not long ago.

Hmm I'll stand corrected, I was looking at this article over at endgaget and there are a few users that mention running cad w/o issue. I figured with the small screen and limited resources it wouldn't really work out well but hell what do I know....lol Intel VP says netbooks are "fine for an hour" - Engadget

The 100TU does not have that good of battery life. Its battery life is the same as my 15.4" 2.0ghz C2D Toshiba laptop.
The Samsung NC10 has the longest battery life. Around 6 and a half hours of constant use. It also has a 160gb hard drive with some other netbooks don't even offer.
However, Samsung does not sell laptops to Australia. So if you decide on the NC10 (Which is my number one choice) You are looking at buying it from an overseas company that can ship to Australia, or off of Ebay.
My next choice after that would be the MSI U120 or U100. Both great netbooks. |

The U120 will be out by the end of January, if you can wait that long.
The Samsung however already is out and has the same specs as the U120 and it looks much better IMO. It has a more professional look.
If you can find a place to Import it to Australia that is, or find one on Ebay.
