I have a Sierra Compass 597 USB modem, used to connect to Spring Mobile Broadband. It worked fine for a few days, but suddenly, it started crashing my computer. I've tried it with two different laptops, a Dell and an Acer, with the same result.
When I try to connect using the Sprint Smartview software, the computer crashes. I get the "blue screen of death" and a page fault error message.
I think it's a power issue, because it only happens if the computers are running off battery power. If they are plugged in, the Sierra modem works fine. I've tried different USB ports, removing all other USB devices, reinstalling the drivers for the USB ports and the Sierra modem, and changing the power management settings of the USB hubs so they are never turned off. Nothing has helped.
