| Zeroing in on a net book, IBM X30 or X40
As we like to take a laptop in our RV when we travel, I would like to replace our IBM G40 with a more compact unit. I have looked at the MSI Wind and the Acer net books. I'm drawn to the IBM X40 or X30 which boast a slightly larger screen (12" as opposed to 10",) and a reasonably sized keyboard. I'm looking for a used or refurbished unit. Can any one explain the difference between the IBM X40 and the X30?

Are there multiple versions of the X30 and X40? All I've seen are reviews about them from over 2 years ago. The specs those things had are pretty terrible.
If you are looking for a little bit larger screen size, what about something like a Dell Inspiron 13"? Dell Inspiron 13 Laptop
They also have a 12.1" mini Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Laptop / Netbook |

Thanks for weighing in on my netbook question. The Dell Inspirons are considerably more $, The IBM's are fairly robust, and affordable at around CDN $ 300.00. (re-furbished.) I'd be interested to hear as to why, in you opinion, the specs on the IBM were "pretty terrible." |

The specs I saw on those were really old Pentium M's with 256MB of ram, 20GB hard drives, etc.
If they are really that old I'd stay far away from a refub, especially at that price. Any batteries with those are likely near or past the end of their lives and probably would require you to keep it plugged in for almost all use. |

The IBM X40 I'm looking at come with these specs:
Processor : Intel Centrino 1.4Ghz
Memory: 1 gb ram
Hard drive : 40 GB
Optical drive : DVD/CD writer combo drive
Wireless Internet
Screen : 12 inch
Adapter : Included
Operating system : Windows XP PRO
Condition : Grade A
Also comes with Extended Battery!!!!
Seemed like a reasonable unit for the $.
