| Using Three 3g mobile to access the internet on laptop
hey i realised i could connect my laptop to my nokia n96 via bluetooth using nokia pcsuite and then by going into pcsuite i can connect via the phone to internet. I'm guessing most people will be thinking thats not that remarkable, but i'm a pretty low standing member of the tech world!!!
Anyway the question i have is this, how much will it be costing to use the mobile as modem in this way? I do have the max internet data package from three, but i'm not sure if this only counts for pages surfed on the actual phone. Will they actually know that the data being used is being used on the laptop and not on the phone? I'm doubtful, but wanted to check before i go wild with it |

I know with my google phone, it's not possible to use the phone as a modem. They have phones/plans out there where you can, but you'd have to probably change your service for it.
If your looking to connect anywhere you go to the internet with your laptop, you'd be best getting a wifi card from a mobile provider. |

Well, the service/price varies on your location. Where about do you live? Where do you think you'll be using this the most?
I personally would check into sprint cards. They have a faster network then most other providers, that's being upgraded to WiMax here in the next year or so.
At&t would also be good in most areas.(cept west coast) |

What you were originally asking about is called Tethering. It is possible with many phones, and should only be counted as your normal web surfing on the phone (i.e. unlimited plan will not cost you anything to tether, otherwise its usually a fee per megabyte).
NOTE, however, that it is written in your terms of service (TOS) that you cannot legally tether. Some cell companies put a cap to the amount you can transfer and if you go above that amount they cancel your service as they assume you are tethering. Some don't do anything. Others claim to know if it is the phone or your computer connecting, but I am not sure how (maybe a bluff?). Either way, make sure you know if you are allowed to Tether before you do, otherwise you might end upwithout a phone..
If you do plan to use mobile broadband, it is a decent deal. But you should be using it often to justify its high price...

thats the amin reason i haven't gone for a dongle, using the mobile as a modem would only be used for small periods, and i'm of the same opinion that they don't know for sure that you are using to as you say tether |
