9800GT/GTS (whatever it is) Mobile chip would be the best performing though... 8700M is an ok mid range mobile chip, just don't expect to play games like Crysis & Far Cry 2 & other Eye Popping Graphics games on high settings. medium settings maybe.

That Gateway laptop is only around 1000 points less than my Core 2 Duo and 8800gt were in 3dmark06. The 9800mgts is slightly slower than an 8800gt desktop card. Now, my desktop was able to play Crysis at High settings at 1920x1080 and get around 25fps on average. That laptop CAN play Crysis at high at 1920x1080 and still get around 15-20fps which is still playable, and in some places it will even go up higher. You may have tried Crysis on a "similar" setup, but I am telling you that I have played Crysis on that very exact same laptop and it CAN play Crysis on High settings at 1920x1080. Especially if my old Core 2 Duo and 8800gt could play it at those settings, as they were not that much faster than the laptop.

And at 1680x1050 the laptop can even get over 30fps on average. That card packs a punch.

Maybe you can get "playable" (15-25 FPS is not playable) framerates in _some_ locations, but it will not be playable throughout many parts of the game.

Deny it all you want, I don't really care as I don't own the laptop so it does not bother me.


All I wanted to do was give my recommendation of the best gaming laptop for the price. And to describe the level of performance I gave an example of how it runs on the most demanding game out there.

I don't know of another laptop that is as fast for the same price.

I found the specs on xoticpc.com to be alot higher that alienware, whilst the prices are better

Yep, that is a very nice card. It should be able to play everything very well.
