compaq presario 900

I want to know wat I can do to upgrade a compaq presario 900.
I believe that this memory works for it but if you guys can confirm tat I'll be glad.
Micro Center - 256MB PC-2100 DDR SO-DIMM Memory Module
What I really want to do is upgrade it to a better cpu that is preferably somewhere in the 2gz range.

Hey & welcome.

Presario 900 is a series number, not a model number. Can you find the model number so we can better help you out? It is usually listed on the bottom of a notbook or back of a desktop.

cpu
AMD Athlon XP 2.08 GHz Processor

the memory you asked about should be compatible, and I looked those number and they go with a compaq presario900AP which has a 20GB hard drive so you should probably upgrade that to.
if you want maximum battery life a solid state drive would work very well and since it is actually one of the first 900s you use IDE dives.
ssd
Newegg.com - Transcend TS32GSSD25-M 2.5" 32GB IDE Internal Solid state disk (SSD) - Solid State Disks
if you want even more hard drive space cheap you can get this instead, but you won't have as much battery life.
Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio WD800BEVE 80GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive - Laptop Hard Drives

the most expensive part would be the cpu though, and I'm not exactly sure about the drives but I believe the memory should work.

I could almost buy a better laptop for that much if I sell my current one!

I just updated my CPQ 900US laptop processor. I used an AMD Athlon-XP-m Barton 2400+ processor that is designed with a running voltage of 1.45V. Part # AXMH2400FQQ4C. This unit dropped in and booted on the first try. The running speed is 1788 Mhz, but I did boost it to 1890 Mhz. The boosted speed includes a FSB bus speed of 280 Mhz. I also have 1Ghz, 2x512 memory and the unit speeds are very noticeable over a stock AMD@1.46 Ghz. I did use a used processor. I think that the upgrade was well worth the effort.
