Hi,
As some may be aware, I've recently had two laptops turn into large paperweights - and they now need to be replaced...
I'm currently only interested in getting one replaced, and have a budget of £400 (MAX) to get the laptop. I've already got the OS and applications that I would need, and would be looking to upgrade RAM later if required, so mainly want advice for the CPU/deal side.....
I don't want anything smaller than a 15" screen, and it should have the standard wireless and DVD playing capabilities.
I've had a little experience with Acer laptops, but have found them lacking, but otherwise the best ones I have spotted (without knowing so much about the CPU side) are within Unexpected error occurred - Tesco.Direct (don't know why it says about the error - the link works for me, from the preview) Buy Laptops at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Computers and laptops. - (16 products)
As a guide, one of the dead ones was an HP Pavillion DC1000 (I'm sure Karma's got the specs from way back!) and the other was a Packard Bell "EasyNote" - the latter was fairly long in the tooth though...! Both had been running with 2 GB of RAM.
Oh, and I need to be able to have in time to take somewhere on Monday, so a few of the delivery options might be ruled out....
Any suggestions (etc) greatly appreciated...

Cheers dude...
Which would you say would be the better one...? I'm not sure, but I think I would go for the HP as it has a later chip (unless I remember incorrectly, the 00 at the end was the original/earlier ones, then 50 and now 70) and I can get the RAM in a month or so when I've got a little more cash to splash.....
Oh, and it also has the DVD re-writer..... |

I think either of those are good really. CPU might be lacking a little in one, but it's got a slightly better battery I believe.
IDK, looking at both of them again, I'd probably get the HP. |

I got an e-mail from Ebuyer for this: HP 550 Laptop,Intel Core 2 Duo T5670 1.8GHz, 4GB 250GB 15.4" BrightView TFT, DVD±RW Lightscribe Writer, Bluetooth, SD Card Slot, Vista Home Premium, Office Ready (60 day trial or 25 uses) - Ebuyer
Which is basically the same as the HP stated above, but with 4 GB of RAM (instead of 2 GB) for an additional £20...
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be laying out £1,700 later today (getting some televisions and UPS's to go with that...) and it should be delivered tomorrow... |
