    need a laptop

ok, im looking to spend under $600.

    i want 4 gb ram
    64 bit vista
    200gb+ harddrive
    LED display would be amazing
    must have built in webcam/mic

    Gateway - Laptop with AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core Processor - NV5214u

now, u may look at the one linked above and say "hey, thats a great deal." i did, so i bought it, and it has the most garbage mouse-pad ive ever used in my life. I cant find anything else with those specs anywhere close to the price. so im thinking maybe someone else can? but im gonna go to best buy tonight, ask for a manager, and be a royal pain to see if i can try to get a discount on a more expensive laptop.

*3gb of ram is acceptable, and decent battery life is a must*
one more question, what is wireless n?

    Asus - Laptop with Intel® Pentium® Processor - Bronze/Black - K50IJ-RX05
that one seems good too, but no hdmi or s-video??? lame...

Other member could probably find better but this is the best I could find because I'm slihtly rushed.
Newegg.com - lenovo IdeaPad Y530-5900U NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T5900(2.20GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 4GB Memory 250GB HDD Dual layer DVD Burner Intel GMA 4500MHD - Laptops / Notebooks

Don't know if it has a mic though cause that wasn't an option on the search for newegg, but it has a webcam Vista 64 bit (even though with 4gb of memory you don't need 64 bit) It has a 250gb hdd.

This one on the other hand has an 8 hour battery life but you sacrifice big time on the on the cpu with the pentium.
    Newegg.com - Acer Aspire Timeline AS3810TZ-4880 NoteBook Intel Pentium SU2700(1.30GHz) 13.3" Wide XGA 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 320GB HDD Intel GMA 4500MHD - Laptops / Notebooks

Now hdmi and s-video I do not know about. And why a laptop even needs them I don't know.

Wireless N is the newest wireless standard previously it was G.

To be honest without knowing what you plan on going with the lappy its hard to make a great suggestion. But I can say there is no real reason to hang your hat on 4gigs as a standard for a sub $600 laptop. I doubt you'd be doing much with that that would even push 2gigs.

This would be a decent setup. It pushes the price limit but you get a much better gpu setup so you could get a little gaming in on it if need be. the lenovo and msi look sweet..never heard of lenovo though...

this is for my cousin, he is computer illiterate, im pretty much just looking for the most bang for the buck. cheaper the better but i dont see him buying a new laptop anytime soon so just something where the technology will be able to keep up in 3-4 years. As for gaming, i dont see him playing more than a flash game online.

in regards to hdmi or s-video, i connect my laptop to my tv using s-video sometimes, it just seems like a cool thing to have.

Lenovo is the largest manufacturer in China of computers. A few years back they bought out IBM's PC business. All things given equal, I'd pop for the Gateway from Best Buy provided you also purchase a WALK-IN warranty. Walk-in solves a lot of problems over shipping and telephone support!

Gateways are actually fairly reliable and give an excellent value for the money. Their reputation took a beating awhile back when AMD went to Athlon and the original chipsets supporting Athlons were bogus. Everyone using AMD Athlons had those problems. It made other manufacturers (HP and Dell) gunshy about ever using AMD again.

didn't think about gasteway at all.
    Gateway - Laptop with AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core Processor - NV5214u

Best of all it fits all your requirements and its the cheapest oiff all of them. It even has hdmi but no svideo though. Never thought to check best buy thanks for the idea RayH.

    EDIT:
Just realized that is the one you linked to . As for the mouse pad you could buy a new mouse but In all you'll have to look at something else.
