Battery charge indication

I have an old Compaq 1210 laptop. When I use it now everything works fine except for showing the charge of the battery. I can plug in the computer and charge the battery and then leave the computer on and it will run just fine but the whole time the computer will show a 0% battery and even give warnings that the battery is low. Does anyone know what is causing this? Thanks.

I don't know for sure..but it could be a bad board..there is a board..for the life of me I can't think of what it's called...that controls the battery. It controls how the electricity is sent in, or recharged.. as well as the monitor. The only problem with this is that these boards aren't easy to replace nor are they cheap. Try finding another battery to try. If it works then it was the battery. If it doesn't fix it then you have a bad board. sorry
