    MSI Wind u210

What do you guys thinks of the new MSI wind u210 notebook. It certainly is not a high-en gaming pc, but will it run some of 2009's games? I want your opinions.

Its not even a low end gaming notebook so no I wouldn't suggest it for anyone wanting to go any gaming. It uses the ATI Radeon X1250 GPU and Athlon Neo MV-40 Processor neither of which would be good for gaming. Could you "run" newer games, perhaps but you'd have to turn the settings way down and you couldn't expect much in terms of FPS.

Following up on this with some additional info, the screen size is not a standard 4:3 resolution so most games would not display properly. Your ideal "gaming resolution" would end up being 640x480 or 800x600 but because its a wide screen instead of the odd resolution thats native you would end up stretched or letterbox style.

Remember that Netbooks are not laptops and the reason they are called NETbooks is because your primary usage is going to be internet based. Surf, email, and some light productivity should be your normal usage. Anything beyond that is going to stretch the hardware because it was not designed to be a workhorse but instead have lower power and much longer life.

    netbook

I just won one of these in a contest and I was wondering if the graphics card was any good, because I don't know much in terms of ATI radeon card. I'm more of an nvidia guy. I do have a desktop thought that I built that has these specs
. Intel Quad core 2.3 ghz
    . nvidia 9500 gt
    . 4 gb of ram
    .dvd rom
so I will probably just stick with this one for gaming.

Nice contest prize! Do you plan on keeping it or are you going to sell it off? If you were a true gamer you'd sell it off and buy a new GPU for that desktop

    Indeed nice prize...

That 9500GT would die (not really but you know what I mean) if you even remotely suggested running a DX10 game on it..

Yeah for what he could sell that Wind for he could get W7, a screaming GPU that would likely blow his socks off and still have some change. But hey its not my gig.

If you can find a portable scanner ... you could make yourself a sweet portable digital "workspace" by having the Wind and the scanner convert all paper handouts to digit form. Small portable printer and you would have a mobile office.

Yes i realize you are not looking for that right now ... But using the wind for school will only get you so far as you would still need to haul around books and handouts. Would be much easier if you could just scan handouts to PDF, fill them out and then print them legibly without much more hassle then connecting some USB cables and finding a seat near an outlet.

You could in theory become the go-to guy for making sure that anything handed out in class could be distributed too. Might get you the in with the cute girls/guys you would otherwise be too scared to talk too. I mean, we all know that the real reason people go to college is the booze and sex
