    Laptop heating up

I currently have a Toshiba A305 (~1.5 year old) and I have noticed recently that it heats up quite a bit when it's idling. I usually leave it on over night on my desk but it the mornings when I go to use it, its pretty hot to the touch. The vents aren't blocked and I blew out as much dust as possible with compressed air. Is there some way I can diagnose the problem?

Do you have scheduled tasks running in the morning? Some antivirus scans use a lot of computing power which can heat up your laptop.

It could be a sign that the laptop fan is on its way out, you'll know that if it makes some worrying loud noises from time to time.

I had the same problem with mine after the same period of time but I solved it by balancing the laptop on a small box when on my desk at night. The air circulated a lot better from being off the desk a few inches. Just make sure the box isn't directly covering a vent.

Not a perfect solution but it cost nothing and three year on I still use the same laptop

    kphu,

Does it seem hotter than it used to? Are you sure it's the CPU and not something else like the hard drive?

Am I correct to assume you're shipping out in a week? If so, safe sailing and thank you for your service.

Hello,If your laptop's vent is clear of any obstruction, but you still feel your laptop heating up, the problem may be caused by the temperature of the room where you are working. Hot room temperature contributes to the heating up of your laptop.

Get a cooling pad for it. They work really well. And as someone else on here suggested, sit it on something while on the desktop over night to increase airflow. I sit mine on two parallel rulers (the one foot wooden ones). You'd be surprised how much that 1/8th of an inch helps.
