Couple quick questions concerning laptop battery life.
I have a high end laptop that easily plays most newer games on max settings. I haven't noticed any heating issues or similar issues since I got it 6 months ago.
I usually remove the battery when playing a game, but does it make a difference? I'm considering keeping it in when playing a game in case the power cord is accidental pulled out. Also, I sometimes leave the battery out, forget its removed, and unplug my laptop to take it into another room. (I know, I need to be more careful)
1) Does keeping the battery in damage the battery/reduce battery life? I would like to just leave it in 24/7 to make things simpler for myself.
2) I live in Florida, and now that its the summer there are constant storms. Its not uncommon for the power to flicker off for a second. (So far there hasn't been any complete outages) If my laptop is plugged into the AC, and the battery is in, do these pose a threat to the battery in any way? I'm thinking I should just unplug the laptop whenever the weather looks bad.

What I understand about batteries is that if they are constantly left in a fully charged state then that is meant to decrease their life quicker than if they were partially charged. A good idea is to let it discharge to anything like 30-50% and then switch the system off w/out the power attached. When you use it again plug it into external power to charge it. I would suggest doing this at least twice a month just to keep the battery's electrons moving a little. Seeing as you move the laptop around that would be a good opportunity for the battery to drain some juices.
Sensible thinking must reign supreme in a storm. Power surges from possible lightning strikes can irreversibly damage electrical components, especially computers. You have the right idea, just switch off main power and yank the cord when it looks risky. Why take the chance?
Cheers, -- Tom
