laptop guidence
ok i have been taking a look at all the laptops on the market. Since its a present for graduation i assume go all out.
I have been looking at the alienware Area-51m and as far as i could tell aside from service it was one of the best machines out there. I did look into the inspiron 8200 but saw that when configured to match the Area-51m it was about $300-$400 more expensive.
The Sager seemed comparable to the Dell pricewise as well.
Strictly speaking i heard that service on the Dell machines was outstanding, including in home. Does anyone know firsthand the quality of service on alienware, sager, toshiba, or sony.
Thanks,
Newnan

Here's a thread about Alienware computers where you can find out some about their service: Alienware?????
After reading that thread, I'd say the Dell will probably come with better service, but the Alienware will be more optimized for gaming. Don't know if that helps you any...

I have no experience Alienware computers as i build my own, from the looks of it there pretty expensive and if you have the money to throw away i say go it. There support from what i understand is supreme and it better be for the prices they charge for there computers.
I heard Sager makes good laptops at affordable prices.
Toshiba is marked #1 last time i checked in a pc magazine for support and production. Can be pretty expensive from the looks.
Me, i say dell. only because thats what i have dealt with.
thread about my dell
Basically you have not stated what you will be doing with the laptop. Gaming or just surfing the web along with reports for school.
if your not gonna game stay away from Alienware. you have no reason to go for it.

Difference
I have a Dell laptop and it is a GREAT machine (it's just a little old now though) Dell has PREMIUM support, i had a problem wiht it at first and the next day a tech was at my house with a new motherboard. So Dell is great.
Although i am buying a new Alienware-51m next week. The Alienware desktops are AWSOME the only reason the cases are larger is to provide room for expanding. As far as Alienware laptops are concerned i don't really know much about them except that it's exactly what i need. Hopefully the support is that bad.

NASA take them up to Kenny Loggins territory - but won't let them run the Shuttle's systems
IBM=solid laptop > #2 for me is Toshiba, even though the Japanese eschew this brand
Note that most PC "makers" don't make - especially on the laptop front. I may be mistaken but I believe IBM are one of the few that do, hence the price
