is this laptop worth the extra $300?

    Im looking at this $749 Newegg.com - ASUS A53 Series A53SV-XN1 Notebook Intel Core i5 2410M(2.30GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 1333 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
    Then this for $1039 Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G53SW-XN1 Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

Main thing I will be doing is gaming. The 749 one has a gt 540m while the more expensive one has a gtx 460m. All im really trying to decide is weather the 1039 one is worth the money over the other one?

    Thanks

Depends on the games and settings really,

the GTX 460M is a fairly powerful GPU. On Notebookcheck.com its a mid range Class 1 Chip: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

The GT 540M is a whole full class below it, being a Mid range Class 2.

The Problem here with these 2 laptops is the one with the 460 is a lower speed Quad core, for games running only 1 or 2 cores that could be an issue if their heavily CPU dependent, though a 2GHz i7 is still a fairly powerful CPU. But the i5 at 2.3GHz would run much better than the i7's 2GHz cores, if only using 1 or 2 cores.

Though on the Dual core, the entire system would use both cores, where as the i7 you have the extra cores resources to divvy up the work and leave more for the games. Its really hard to say for sure.

If it were me and I had the money for either, I'd spring for the higher priced one, even though it had 250GB less of HDD space.

but like I mentioned its really hard to say for sure, depends on the games and settings really. Some games are more CPU dependent than others and may run a bit better with the i5 dual core than the i7 quad.
