Laptop Problem
Hello
I a Clevo M22ES notebook, which I recently replaced the cd drive in; whilst doing this I noticed it was a little dusty so I hoovered it with my computer hoover (a USB thing) I unscrewed the fan plate to hoover underneath and the processor came with it. I have replaced it back and the plate, but now the computer turns on but only to a black screen (no beeps (I don't know if this is only desk tops) not even going to drive check screen. I was wondering if anyone knows what has gone wrong please?

Just so I understand, the CPU came off the motherboard when you removed the fan plate?
If so, make sure that it is properly seated and make sure none of the pins are bent.

Does the black screen include the mouse arrow?

Hello and thank you for taking time to answer.
I've found the problem now, some pins are bent on the processor, causing a completely black screen with nothing on it, I assume it's the cause.
How can I tell which processor I need for it (it doesn't say in the manual) I would rather buy one and take it to a professional as it seems to work out cheaper here?

Which Processor?
I have asked this on the end of another thread, but just in case it's not seen there, I was wondering could anyone please tell me how I know what processor a laptop (which doesn't turn on, so can't use driver max, say) is using, when it doesn't state it in the manual - is there something on the motherboard which will let me know?
Thank you in advance for any answers given

If you give us the model we might be able to find it or at least family.
If it doesn't turn on at all,and it can't be found on-line, all you can do is take it apart, and look.
It is printed on the top of the CPU, sometimes the bottom, on older stuff.Last edited by stroyal; May 23rd, 2012 at 09:09 AM.

So it was the pins. That is definitely the cause, the CPU is not able to communicate with he rest of your computer which renders the computer useless right now.
If it were me, I'd go on the laptop's website (i.e. Lenovo, Acer, HP - whoever made it) and look up the model number. There it should list all the specs of your laptop including the processor. You could probably even have it scheduled to be sent it and repaired by the company but that could be a bit pricey.
If you would rather just buy the processor and take it somewhere to have it fixed, some places you can look to buy parts are TigerDirect.com - Electronics, Tablets, Phones, Office Supplies & Video Games and Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, HDTVs, Digital Cameras and More!
From there you can search for local pc repair shops (they still have them) or try places like Office Depot, Staples, or Best Buy and see if they have a PC repair department. I know Best Buy has Geek Squad but they may be pricey as well.
Let us know how it turns out or if you have any other questions!

So far it seems to have DDR266 memory, and an SIS chip set.
That puts it back to the ere or the first Pentium 4s 2500, and Athlon/Bartons 2500.
I'll keep looking.
Why do you want to know, if it is broke?
If it is bloke and that old, just rip it apart.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

I read your other post, and you have it out?
The specs should be printed on the top.
You need to clean it and look with a magnifying glass, it is printed lightly.
I have seen a few posts that indicate it is a P4-2.2 GHz with a 400MHz front side buss
If I remember, correctly, that CPU with the 400MHz buss went from 1.3GHz to 2.8GHz
Then they went to a 533MHz buss, but that SIS chip is too old for that.
Edit
As I also remember, that SIS chip was the first chip to support DDR memory.
All us Geeks had one.
I still have 2 laying around.

Threads merged as its all related.
As mentioned since you already have it out, look at the top of the chip, The information should be printed on it. You might have to google the CPPU ID numbers to know for-sure which one it is. Then if you are looking for a replacement, you'll likely have to hit some place like ebay as sites selling older chips are hard to find.

I watched the whole kick-off...unfortunately. As I knew a long time ago, the next-gen consoles are more all-in-one machines/social media boxes vs. gaming consoles. You can see that in the current...
