Before I had a speedstep cpu I thought they were a waste of time, but now i'd be reluctant to go back. The times when I really need full crunching power from my laptop are quite limited, and then i can just turn off speedstep (even on battery).
The plus side is that it doesn't get as hot (this must prolong the life expectancy, too) and the fan on my dell I4100 hardly ever runs -- it switches on for a minute or so if i'm stressing it out.
I suppose it ultimately depends on what the laptop will be used for, but for day-to-day usability i'd recommend the 'mobile' cpu. |
