Hard Drive Clicking: Silenced
Some of you may know this trick. Some may not. Between here and the Dell forums and the newsgroups, one of the small complaints about the Sagers has been the 'clicky' hard drive. I'm not sure if it's just the 5400RPM models, or others.
I stumbled across this post on Google..

I downloaded the utility, and made the change. Sure enough, I now have a quiet hard drive.

It works. No more clickity click click all the time. 'Sure'? Well, yeah. :-)
This is on a NP5660, 5400RPM Toshiba drive, and XP.

I try it on Sager 5620. I set it in Maximum Performance but it say it doesnt support it. What if I disable it? what would happen?

No clue. What OS are you running?
I got the feeling that on some OSes, this utility needs the chipset drivers installed to gain access to the controller tweaks.

The Sager 5620 is using a Window XP Service Pack 1.
Do you think the old version of Intel Application Accelerator - Version 2.2.2 might work.
Wait my bad. I found out that my hard drive is a IBM DJSA-220 not Tosbiha.

I'm not sure. I think it's a ICH3 controller setting tweak, as long as the drive is cooperative.
'old' version..I downloaded 2.2.2, :-)
Was there a newer one?

Never mind. Late night babbling.
Just that this tweak has to do with the IDE controller chipset, not necessarily on the hard drive.

Well, with the drive that came in this beast, it was every 4-19 seconds.

Just a small note.
claco, can you tell in your Intel Application Accelerator - Version 2.2.2. In your Primary Channel --> Master. What is your hard drive full name.
Thank you.

I'm about 99% sure (I'm not at home at the moment) that it is:
TOSHIBA MK4019GAX
That's how I found the google post. I was searching on my HD name/model to see if it was the 5400RPM model.
