Clear Laptops???
Hey, just curious. Are there any company's out there that make laptops with clear cases, ya know, like the one that "Dade Murphy" used in the movie "Hackers" (Love that movie BTW hehe)..... altho hopefully they would have better specs than the one in the movie!

I don't currently know of such a thing, but I second that ideas coolness factor! That could rock, espesially if you had some chrome, and funky colored pieces inside! That could rock!

The only problem i could see with the clear plastic, is that maybe it may be more brittle than the normal plastic's used.... But if ya looked after it ya wouldn't have a problem!

I was thinking about that too. You would have to use some high quality stuff to get that type of durability + clearness. Would something like plexiglass, or something like that work??? I'm not an expert in case making at all. Perhaps that would be bad for it.

I think plexi would be too brittle if its too thin... plus the heat inside the laptop (i dunno, do laptops even get hot? I've hardly used one) might also warp the plexi?
Like i said, tho, i don't really know for sure.

I searched Google up and down and cant find anything reguarding clear, acrylic, see-thru or translucent laptops
I know they must exist...

Well, I'm not so sure they exist really

Is there a market? Not really IMO. While all of us agree 100% that it is a badass idea, laptops have typicaly been business purchases and tailored such to them.
Only recently have more home users been purchasing more laptops, and even they probably wouldn't find the clear idea all *that* cool.
I'm thinking maybe you could find this as a custom job if there was a laptop equivalent of Falcon or something like that. Nothing I know of though.

plexi wouldn't work...it's the heat thing...yes, over time, it'd warp, as would regular plastic. However, there was this microsoft mug that my Dad has from when he used to work for them...it's part plastic, part silicon...rather heavy, but very clear, and has withstood scalding water from the dishwasher for around 6 years now...maybe there's an answer? It's rather heavy though...

Lexan plastic. Extremely lightweight, transparent, stands up to boiling temperatures, and virtually unbreakable. You literally have to take a sledgehammer to it.... and even thats hard. The perfect thing to use would be lexan.

I agree on the lexan
we used it in the windshields in racecars, that stuff is see-through steel
The impossible takes more time, and costs more money.

Lexan scratches pretty easily though, if they could coat it with something on the outside to prevent scratches.

I'd be perfectly happy if you can buy your own laptop case (and hardware) with the ease you can for your desktop. So that you can build your own.. that would be enough for me....

I dont know much about lexane, but would you be able to melt it down and then die-cast it? Kinda liek they make regular laptop cases now.
