Hi guys,
I'm having a little bit difficult in choosing one of the two below:
HP Pavillion ZT1195 (PIV - M 1.5, 40GB, 512MB, 15 inch 1400x1050, DVD-CDRW, Wi-Fi, S3 Savage Pro 3D 16MB Share)
Sony Vaio GRX520 (PIV - M 1.6, 30GB, 256MB, 15 inch 1024x768, DVD-CDRW, ATI 7500 32MB Dedicated)
Which one should I take? The HP one sounds overall good but it has share video memory , I heard that sony is more reliable and durable.
Pls help me pick one guys.
Cheers. |

no mention of price, but assuming roughly equal, then the hp gets my vote.
it has:
25% more hd space,
2x memory
higher resolution display
and imo, hp does a better job of post-sale support thru their website and cust service.
the slightly slower cpu is meaningless...
edit: i should add that i don't game so the video is not important to me

Sony. Slight less on the specs, but much better video.

That S3 Savage Pro 3D 16MB Share sound's like an intergrated video card, which is a bad thing if it's for games, and also what type of memory is that?

the shared memory vid card is horrible. I tested one on a mobo, and it got less than 1000 on 3dmark 2001SE, threw in a cheap geforce4mx440 and got 4-5000. Almost unplayable on any games that came out this year, and most last year.
I would suggest staying away from shared, or make sure it has an AGP slot and upgrade.

If the price is the same for both, then go HP.
For the same reasons that PresterJohn have mentioned above ... more HD space, double RAM ... |
