| i need a cheap dell laptop
well i am a big gamer, not for the highend games like doom3 or anything yet, but more like quake3, CS, UT2k3, nfs hot pursuit2, and some others, but ya get the picture. i have recently been going to a lot of LAN parties w/my friends.. and it is a pain in the @$$ to take my subwoofer everytime i go, and all else i have to have there with me. so im thinking of getting a dell laptop, or something else if i can get a better deal than from dell. i will probly need 32 megs of ram for vid card, 256 sys ram, 25GB + hd, 14"+ screen, dvd drive, no burner, and perhaps a case. anyone know where i could get this for 600 or less? might settle for 700, but i am 14, have no job, allowance is 15 a week. but i will be able to pay it off to my parents with monthly payments or something like that(like dell has the 30bucks a month on one of their deals) any ideas appreciated!

the cheapest new dell laptop you can buy is $849 which is already considerably more than your budget.
considering that you have no job & are only 14, my advice to you is forget it. even if you can find something used for $600, it would be a waste of money.
save your money, dude. |

you might consider getting one of those micro pc cases that shuttle makes, they are really small and since their a real pc, you can upgrade em when you want to. Thats what i aim to be building sometime this spring if i can scrape the cash together |

Limited Budget - Laptop - Gaming
Sorry, those three don't go together.
The Shuttle is a great choice. Don't lug the subwoofer, get some good headphones, they work better for games anyway.
If you really want to go portable, get a 15" LCD somewhere on sale for about $200. However, that's not very cost effective when 17" CRTs are around $100.
Pass on the laptop idea, even if you got one that would play the games you want to play, 1 year from now it would be marignal at best for new games. You can't just pop a new video card in a laptop like you can with your gaming desktop. |

Also, how much do you have right now? I calculated, and if you wait one year, you get 780 from allowances. Heh...I'm 15 and get 20 a month.

I don't understand, I swear. Beggars can't be choosers. I swear, I get customers like that all the time. They say, "I want a complete system. I want a Pentium 4, a 15 inch LCD, and a photo printer. Oh, and it has to be less than $600." I don't think so.
Also, those $800-$1100 laptops. Word of caution: you get what you pay for. |
