Question
AMD in laptops?

Hey everyone,

I've got a question-

I've been reading several different threads in various newsgroups regarding notebooks as desktop replacements and folks have had a lot of good things to say.

One thing I noticed though was that whether they mention going with a mobile chip or straight desktop chip (for more power) no one ever mentions AMD.

Can anyone tell me if there are some good laptop vendors out there that make high end desktop replacement notebooks that use AMD desktop or mobile chips?

If no, is there a reason why?

Thanks all!

Welcome to TechIMO.
So far, Dell, Gateway, Sony, Toshiba all only sell Intel while HP and Compaq sell AMD. Personally, I don't think it is the inferiority of the AMD processor that causes them to omit the AMD line from laptops, but the brand of manufacturers. Compaq is horrible and HP is brand new in the laptop business, although appears much better than Compaq (they are both under the same business now, but Compaq still has a ways to go). Now for desktops, I am AMD all the way because of power and price, although Intel is making a strong comeback in both areas.

Well, that's mostly correct. Sony sells AMD based laptops.
