Laptop fan problem

I have a Toshiba Satelite 1650CDS. It overheats after about an hour of running. I know it's the fan, cause it makes a whining sound. I can't figure out how to get the case open in order to clean it/replace it. Would I be better to take it in, or would this be an easy fix.

I have taken apart older ibm laptops and fixed them, but I am having trouble with the toshiba, just getting it open. I really don't want to break it, but would like to get the fan to quit screeching

Any ideas???

Well generally there are several screws on the bottom of the laptop that keep it together. I basically unscrew everything and put it back later. I have only worked on a few laptops, but pretty much all of them were straightforward to open. Your best bet might be to look for the manual at Toshiba's site, sometimes they include tips for how to get inside the case when doing upgrades.
