My very first post!

Hi,

I've searched through the forums and didn't find my answer. If someone's alredy posted sry but....

I'm getting an inverter to power a dell inspiron 8200 AND a printer for several hours. I know about my power requirements but here's what I'm unclear on:

Modified sinewave inverters create an artificial sineLIKE wave, while pure sinewave inverters create a true sinewave. Pure inverters cost about twice as much but are also more efficient.

Mod. sinewave inverters are not recommended in you're using sensitive equipt. (like laser printers) BUT laptops seem to fall into a grey area. I've seen inverters marketed for laptops that use the modified wave, but I tend to think of a laptop as being a bit more sensitive.

Has anyone here had experience doing this? Any ideas?

Thanks, and uh, Hello!

sinewave type is a often-bandied around term which ups/ power manufacturers like to throw out. true sinewave output does indeed cost more to implement which is how some manufacturers try to justify their higher pricing, but the truth of the matter is for desktops and laptops, it doesn't really make a difference.

also, it is generally a bad idea to connect laser printers to *standard* power conditioning equipment because of their large power draws, not really because they are sinewave-sensitive.
