Most laptop parts are propietry (sp?) componets and are very expensive. I wouldn't recommend trying to build your own. There are some really cheap laptop deals going on right now. check out the Docs Online Steals and Deals for the toshiba deal. like 549 after rebates or something like that.

you can hit newegg.com and they have barebones laptops (no os, HD, CPU, ram, or bat). Its a lot tougher to set up a laptop because the heat factor becomes a much bigger prob. I'd have to suggest buying one because it is generally about as much (if not cheaper), and you get good warrenties along with it!

I found it!

Go to http://www.freewebs.com/trekkiejt to see exactly what you are looking for. This thing is also near standard size! Exactly the parts and even where to buy them. Mini-ITX, slim drives, even a battery for mobility. I work for a small computer company that repairs computers including laptops so I have had the oportunity to dig into a wide variety of makes, models, and ages of laptops as well as some customizing. I haven't finished this yet but it is looking good so far.
