Toshiba Dynalink 286/ J3100GS laptop

Hi There,

I have a Toshiba Dynalink 286 J3100GS laptop that belongs to a friend of mine. Prior to his being given this pc the owner took everything off the pc except what was needed to use 2 floppies which are a language lesson.

Now the problem is after it was idle over the xmas break something has gone wrong with it.

When it's turned on it does the memory test then comes up with this message......"Place system disk in drive"

We have no disks at all for the pc.... I have tried formatting using Windows 3.1 and '95 but although the floppy drive appears to be reading the disk it just comes back to the same message....

Can anyone help me fix this pc please.......

Have you tried a Windows 98 boot disc????? Use F Disk to set up the drive and remove any previous data then format and install your OS with the cd. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the reply and link. Would you believe I could not find a site using google search where I could download DOS..

The pc only has a floppy drive and I couldn't get it to recognise the windows floppies.....lets hope I can now get somewhere with the dos disk.....if not you'll hear from me again....

Hi Pickle,

I downloaded the earliest DOS they had on the site you gave me...... and nothing has changed no matter what I do......

It runs the memory test then still says insert system disk....

How can I wipe everything and start again when I can't get past this point..... I'm ready with DOS 6.0 and Windows 3.1 on floppies.....sorry no cd on this one.....
