5400 rpm drives for laptops

Howdy from TX!

I have a Compaq Presario 1510T with 2Ghz mobile P-IV, 512 ddr, 32MB ATI Radeon, and 30GB 4200rpm hdd. I notice the only thing slowing me down is the hard drive. I want to upgrade to a 5400rpm drive, but cannot find one for my laptop. I found a couple at newegg, but they are for other laptop brands. Anyone have an idea where I can pick one up?

Most laptop hard drives are standardized at 9.5mm in height.

A quick look at Hitachi shows:

Or, take a look at the Travelstar drives

(Note: Hitachi has taken over IBM's hard drive business, so you may see references to IBM's drives)

Be sure to check the specs on your computer and make sure it supports standard laptop drives. (You may want to check the specs on your currently installed drive.)

Measure the height of the drive and see if it's a 9.5 or a 12.5mm

Dell has some 16mb cache drives @ 5400rpm that Techbargains said will really wake up a Lappy, Newegg shows some with 8mb cache and 5400rpm also..
