Are there any laptops that dont run too hot or dont get the air from below that perform fairly well? I kind of like having my laptop on my bed but I dont want to overheat my computer doing it.
Ive been looking at the Sony GRV series and the Sager so far.. |

I have a Dell Inspiron, and its on my bed fairly often. The only thing I REALLY watch out for is the exhaust fan. It gets air from the front so its not too bad there.. but the exhaust is on the back and easily covered by blankets.
This lappy isn't too bad, it is just a bit of a boat anchor and its more of a lap heater than a laptop
Very stable though
(mind you this model is nearly 1-1/2 years old so certainly not the same out on the market right now)

some notebooks have air vents at the bottom of the computer. those i wouldn't put on a bed.
mine(inspiron8200) go to the right and back, so no problem, plus i use fangui which monitors cpu-temperature. |

I always have my lappy on my bed, I just have a clipboard under it so heat is never an issue. Always lay it on something hard and flat, heat is a computers enemy. |

Hey.. you all who have 8200s..
I was thinking about it but
I got wary when i read so many bad reviews
about the plastic being really cheap and weak and "flexible"
and things like the keyboard scratching the screen
do any of you have these complaints?
i picked sony cause i kind of wanted durability..
I dont know about the sager much
also i live in texas
so i would have to pay tax for the dell. |

i don't like the plastic of my 8200either.
i would actually like it softer, more flexible.
to me it makes the impression of being hard and brittle.
if you tap it on the shell, it's more a "tick tick tick" sound rather than a "thump thump thump" which would signify thourough solidity and sturdyness.(don't laugh at me for this:-)))
and the screen: it doesn't touch the keyboard.
mine doesn't, at least. |

I agree with the above the keyboard definately dose not touch the screen, but the plastic near the hot keys could be better, thats the only complaint I've got about the case.
