| Laptop Display got Messed Up :-|
Don't ask how, but some soapy water got into my
laptop display - seems like it's in between the layers ...
Now the screen has visible sumdges inside, mostly
appearing as darker spots (no bad pixels etc.)
What are my options ?
Soak the display in distilled water then dry ?
Appreciate any input guys! |

Not sure if q-tips will work, it sounds to me as if he is saying that soap got inside of the panel itself. I would recommend leaving the laptop OFF and open and let it dry out for a day or two and see if that helps.
What brand of laptop do you have? When did you purchase it? Is it still under warrenty? You might have to send in your laptop for them to look at. might not be soap could be a defect that is making it look like soap. Altho I never heard of that but ya never know. |

Well it's a Toshiba 4600, P3-750 14" tft screen.
Bought it used from ebay for 600$ :-))
It's still working great, but well the soapy water
got in when I was cleaning the screen, bump :-|
After a day it seems little better, but I'm not sure it
can ever dry 100% since it was with little soap ...
I tried buying distilled water but the store only
had deionized water, heh lol nice service :-)
Any suggestions welcome! |

I doubt if you can get the actual LCD apart besides just removing it from the laptop base. You could try prying it open and see if that doesn't allow more air into to. Maybe just wedge something in it so it's at least open more. |

Hmmm I'd just soon to leave it alone for a couple of days and not to use soapy water again. Whenever I clean my laptop screens I just use a very very very soft cotton cloth and plain warm water and then wring it out good. Then wipe my laptop display clean. It does the job for me everytime. |

deionized water is actually pretty much the same, only non sterile.
will serve the same purpose, not to leave marks. |

you can actually open the screen, meaning separate it from the frame of the screen. look around the screen, there should be little rubber "feet" that keep the screen away from the keyboard when closed, behind those feet are the screws that hold the screen in the frame. If you have the balls, you can try to gently open t and dry off the screen with a lint free rag or paper towel. I dropped a pager once into the toilet. the screen got all f-upped like yours, I took it apart basically just like I mentined above and slid the paper towel between the screen and the clear plastic protective screen. Don't know if this helps or I sound like an ass, but decide for yourself. I use a paper towel that is barely damp with glass cleaner when my screen is gunky btw. |

Well I took it out of the laptop, but it's still in a metal frame,
and I didn't attempt to take it all apart yet.
The smudges have gotten better, almost non-visible on
dark, yet quite visible on white.
I wonder if the water got in between the backlight and
the actual lcd screen, however it almost seems like
I can see 2 distinct layers of smudges - one when looking
directly ahead, the other when from an angle ...
I'm still thinking about putting the whole lcd in distilled water.
What do you guys think... |
