Recently I was in New York and watched a waitress take my order on a color PDA looking device that showed the picture of the entrée to the guests.
Does anyone know where to source such a handheld device??
Is this a good time to buy into this technology or should I wait for the Big boys to test it out and bring the price down???
Thanks

Hmm. Any ideas how the thing worked? RF networked, thus totally live? or was it a 'store data and burst a transmission when told' kind of thing?
Termiflex in Warner NH used to make 'Windows CE' type handheld data terminals with color LCDs.... those things could do such a thing but Termiflex was not a key player in the field (mostly the custom designs were for inventory management stuff).
Have you tried the bigger cash register people - NCR, Sweda, Sharp, etc, and have you searched on Google for 'POS' or 'Point of Sale'? |

| That is exactly it!!!!
I will do a couple of searches today!
I am still looking into the pos software I will use in the restaurant. I have used several in the past Aloha, Micros, Squirrel, Digital Dining,…..
All of these cost an arm and a leg so I am looking for others. I don’t mind investing in technology but why when you can buy used?!!!

I wonder if there might be a wireless PDA program, but then again, wireless PDAs cost an arm and a leg these days. But all things are relative, because maybe todays wierless PDA thingy is still cheaper than the stuff you used to use.
You keep feeding me, I'll try to keep feeding you (no wait, skip the pun, I meant 'feed ideas'). Some Cell phones with LCDs are cheaper than some PDAs. Man where has technology taken us?!?! Anyways, won't the software be determined by the hardware, especially if you get into older hardware? |

$22,000? You could probably buy basic handheld devices and pay someone to write code for them to do what you want for half that amount. |
