first laptop

`I dont have a laptop, dont know anything about them, I am, however, a bit computer savy with reg tower type computers. I build, rebuild fix and repair daily. As far as a laptop is concerned, I only need a basic on to keep track of rental property info on it. I already have the software on cd to install. What would be a good one to start out on. Dont need all the bells and whistles, only need to say sit in a restaraunt and enter data occasionally. will run windows 98SE or Me on it, whatever runs best on them. 8-10 gig drive is plenty big enuf. thanks for any suggestions.

Picking up something used might be the best for you then. A P3-m or something in that neighbourhood.

You might want to look at the reviews on PC Magazine's Web Site or on CNet for a variety of choices.

As GB said, low end is fine for you. You can get a Dell Inspiron 1100 for $749. That's probably more than enough for you...
