| Anyone ever take apart a laptop?
I have a Compaq 1800t that is 3 months out of warranty with a floppy drive that is busted, (eject button wont work). Should I attempt a fix by myself? I have never dissected a laptop, and am a little scared but don't want to pay out the butt to have it fixed. |

I have done it once. I took two 386's apart to combine them into one that was good. They both worked but one had a broken keyboard and the other had a monitor that would not stay up. You had to support it with something.
All I can say is take your time. Draw pics of where screws go where wires are connected how you took it apart. Do this and you should have no problem. They really are not very diff. form PC's
good luck

Our company used to do warranty work for Compaq. Notebooks are quite a different animal from desktops or servers. Be careful and watch how you take them apart. They are layered with no room to spare inside. It is quite an accomplishment to get everything back inside the case. Once you have done a couple of them you get used to it. Download the service manual for the 1800t HERE.

You are lucky Xeroid sent you a link to your Laptop.... If you are patient and like working with small things...they are not a problem. I just wish they would make them more upgradeable... Even without the manual...they are not that hard to take apart. Like Xeroid said they come apart in layers... |

Xeroid:
Thanks for the link, wow I didn't realize it was that layered. I have to remove almost everything to get to the floppy drive.
I guess another question would be where can I get a replacement floppy drive? From Compaq? Other online seller? |

Compaq is probably your best bet. Manufacturers may vary specifications on devices for each model. About the only ones that are relatively standard are the ones for the Ultrabay2000 spec devices. |

| replacing a laptop screen
Can anyone help me with an HP Pavilion ZE4400 screen replacement. I have an entire new screen. I didn't think it would be too difficult to do myself. Needed help getting the screen off. |
