Laptop Batterys (Removal)
Hey guys, I have a Curious Question. Is It Essentional to Turn the Computer Off when changing Batterys, And If so, Why?
I,ve never Understood this. I,ve been Removing My Battery and reinserting it While the Computer was on with no Side Effects, But I just want to be sure Im not doing long term Damage to the Curcuits or Processor of the Laptop.Sony Vaio PCG-GRZ610

no, provided that the laptop is NOT running on ac power, you don't need to shut it down when changing batteries...

Are you sure? If it's not plugged in to the wall as soon as you remove the battery to switch it, the laptop would have no power to run and would just power off (like pulling the plug on your computer while it's running).
I would suggest shutting the laptop down before switching the battery, just to ensure you don't damage anything.

If the unit is plugged in standby is fine. If not, you won't be in standby anymore when you pull the battery.
PresterJohn... please explain what you are saying... I mean I know what you typed, but I'm thinking you got confused.....
I think you meant provided it is not running on battery power.

If you're only running on battery without an AC wall outlet power connection then the laptop would just shut off because there's no power for it to run.
Why don't you want to shut off the laptop?
To me that would be the safest way of replacing a battery.

Say, you,re in the midddle of watching a DVD, and you run low on Batt Power, you Plug your Laptop into a power source (Temp) and change Batt's, Is this O.K? I sometime watch movies in my car, and Have a AC To DC converter, but don't want to drain My car Battery. So I run on Batterys instead. But when I want to change power sources, the Instructions require me to powerdown the Computer. This would be just to Incovenient and time Consuming. Can This hurt the Computer in the Long run?

As long as it has some kind of power source, then you should be able to change the battery without issue.

It's probably highly rated because of the level of violence. The story is decent.
