| Need a LCD screen for Compaq Armada
Here's the deal. I bought an "as-is" Compaq 1750 laptop on e-bay for a good price. I have checkec it out and everything seems to be working EXCEPT the display is cracked. About half of the screen (below the cracked place) has no image. Works fine with external monitor and the portion of lcd not cracked is working.
I have been looking for a replacement and they are EXPENSIVE. Seems the Armada 1750 is more expensive than others. I disassembled the lid and got the part number (316277-002). That is the whole lid assembly. Inside the lid is stamped "NEC 13.3 TFT". Is it possible to buy a replacement LCD that is not specifically for the Compaq 1750? Or do I just have to bite the bullet and buy a used one for $100 or more? I bet connectors are not the same between brands.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. And thanks in advance. |

Well if there was no indication of a cracked screen in the ebay description you could prolly try to get your money back. "As is" only implies that theres no warranty if something breaks while you have it, but since it was already broken you should be able to do something about it |

No, the listing said no returns or refunds. Stated that item was untested. I'm not unhappy because I bought it cheap and could part it out and get my money back. But I would prefer to fix it and use it myself.
Thanks for your reply. |

From what I remember of laptops, you'll need to get a similar screen. If you can get one with the same physical connections that's less expensive go for that.

I'm pretty sure its got to be the exact model or else it wont work b/c the inverter and the motherboard of the laptop are only designed for a particular screen, but I could be wrong. |

Does anyone know where to get new or used laptop screens. I broke mine too! I have an old Sharp something....... that i really like because it is very small and light and perfect for just surfing the web and wifi. (It fits in my purse) |

If you do a search on "Sharp ? lcd replacement" you should get some sites. However prices I've seen are more than whole thing is worth. I'm watching e-bay for mine. Search "electronics and computers" for my model. Good luck. I'm still looking. |

Ok, I wasnt able to find a replacement in the shops for less that about $350.00 but on ebay there was a couple of lcds available on ebay:
Here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=42186
AND http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=42186
Email the seller and verify the stock number(316277-002) before you buy.
You might try "IT Parts shopper" They have nothing in shop now but you can put in a request and get others to send you quotes for the part.
Here(already set up for the part number 316277-002) http://www.itpartshopper.com/MostPop...02_frames.html
I think your best bet though is to use an external display until you can find a display cheap enough for you to replace the damaged one(IMO $50-100).
HOWEVER if you parts out the laptop, excluding the damaged display, I think you will probably be able to clear maybe $250-$300.00. The motherboard alone would go for ~$150 I think.

no1_vern... Thanks for the links. I had already sent e-mail to the first link and it is a 12". I am sending to second one.
I like this machine and everything works except display, even the battery and I have downloaded a service manual. It's a hard decision about whether to keep if or sell it. If I think I can get the money you suggest I just might sell.
Thanks again.... |

I know I'm late to the party with this, but I ran into a similar situation at work today and managed to finally find a pretty good source for laptop displays. I thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone might find it useful. |
