Question
intel speedstep adjustment

i've read alot of different views and responses to this subject but i am still confused. i read that you can disable the speedstep in the bios and that will allow your cpu to run full throttle, but i also read that diabling it will not allow your cpu to go to max speed which is 2.0gig for mine. also i read on this website that you can go into win xp and adjust the speedstep there also. if you can make adjustments here where do i go to find it? i read that the owner of an i8200 disabled his at the bios and then changed his profile from laptop/notebook to none and he said his was a ripper after that. i also read that if you make an adjustment in win xp with a load on the cpu that you will corrupt the files and the processor will be stuck in a 1.2 gig speed and will not switch to a higher speed. i want to get the max out of my processor all the time so which is the best and right solution,

signed, confused

yes you can go into the bios and disable speedstep. this of course will make your battery run out faster

as for it getting it stuck or corrupting files i have no had a problem with that nor have i heard anyone else who runs speedstep.

Give this a try

My friend uses it on his laptop with XP and I know he has liked it.

However disabling it in the BIOS should work as well.

Not all machines have an option to disable SpeedStep in the BIOS. On both of my Vaios (XG500 and NV190), there is no option to disable SpeedStep. After some searching, I found the Speed Switch XP utility and have been using that sense.

The comment made about disabling it in the BIOS and not being able to operate at full speed made me think... My NV190 is a P4M - 1.7 GHZ. Before using SpeedSwitch, my machine would frequently operate at about 1ghz w/o the AC adaptar. Even when I would plug in the adaptar, it still would only go to about 1.4. It wasn't until I started using SpeedSwitch that I could force it to run at the full 1.7 with or w/o the adaptar.
