Screen connections

[Contemplating]

Does anyone know if the LCD screens on laptops have standard conncetions to the video card? Or does it vary with company?

I have only physically looked at 2 one compaq and one other the compaq was an older armada and it connected via a very small ribbon cable... the fit into an odd looking metal clip the other was also a small ribbon cable but was smaller and had ia diff connector.... that is all that i know...
