| Intel D865PERL Installation FIASCO! HELP
Hello people. I picked up an Intel 865PE Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU, Model D865PERL (retail) from Newegg, and am using a P4 1.6ghz CPU, Crucial PC 3200 512mb DDRAM, ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb (AGP), WD 80gb HD.
IT DOESN'T WORK!
I turn the computer on, and all LED's light up, hard disks spin, CD Drives spin... but I see NOTHING on the screen. No CMOS, no nothing.
I've tried numerous times to unplug and replug everything to no avail. It doesn't even work when I'm only have running the CPU/heatsink, RAM, motherboard, and Video Card. Nothing.
I've even inserted a P4 2.66ghz CPU in the motherboard, and different types of RAM, and another video... nothing works.
This is the second board I bought from Newegg: the first board (same model) had the same problem, so I sent it back to them. Is it possible I got 2 lemons from theM??? I highly doubt that, and i strongly believe there is a step missing from my installation.
I'm no newbie... the problem I am facing is just WIERD.
Please help... thanks in advance.

Hmm. Are you sure the mobo isnt shorted to the case? Did you use the washer seperators that came with your case?they prevent shorting to the case. They are red looking. |

Erm.. did you plug in the 12v pentium 4 connector to the processor? should be like 4 plug holes. I missed that step on my first try. |

yeah...what you could do is take the motherboard out and set it on the table and try to boot it then....that is standard procedure after you have already tried reseating everything.
Lots of times you find it works out of the case....so maybe it was shorting on some metal or you had a wire pinched or something.
you dont really even need the wires from the case switches etc hooked up..you can just take an old hard drive jumper and short the power switch posts together on the board to boot it..or just use a flat blade screwdriver to short them together to boot...just be a lil careful with that method.

Thronka, John Prophent, thank you VERY much for responding.
I tried both of your suggestions, and neither worked... the darned thing just doesn't boot. Hard drive spins, DVD drive spins, fans, everything... just doesn't boot to CMOS.
I've switched components around too multiple times now, and every piece works fine in another board. I've concluded that I have been a victim of a bad batch from the manufacturer, in which apparently Newegg.com has a bunch of.
Tomorrow I am going ship it back to newegg (that's 2 defective boards shipped back in 1 1/2 weeks). I've already purchased the ASUS P4S800. ASUS hasn't failed me so far...
thanks for your help everyone. I think i'm going to write a bad review on this board. |
