| ViaHardWare Monitor, Motherboard monitor. What to trust?
I installed VHM for XP and it keeps switching the temp reading between the CPU temp and system temp. The CPU temp will be 35(which is beleivable) and then when it next updates it show the system temp is 35 and the previsos system temp as the cpu temp.
I downloaded Motherboard Monitor and its showing me three readings and they are the same as ViaHM but I dont know what goes with which temp.
Ive got sensor Via686B-1, Via686B-2, and Via686B-3.
1 and 3 are showing around 23 and 24 temps and 2 is about 34.
So Would I be correct to asume that Via686B-2 is the CPU? |

The hotest one is the cpu. To test this, open the case & run the machine. Cover the cpu fan (Don't get your skin right in it!) lightly with a scrap of paper until you see the temp rise. The CPU temp will rise, while the case temp should lower, as you now have the cover off. |

Thanks, Although the side of the case is off with a room fan blowing into it, I cant seem to find out why its still so hot. BTW 35c is idle, I guess my room is pretty hot.
I was testing what was doing better hsf blowing air away or onto the heatsink.
I guess the title was a little wrong to, with the temp switching back and forth I know not to trust ViaHM.
Going off subject alot but do you know of anyway to lower temp or is 35c fine? |

Hey Whisper,
Although caddmannq has got you sorted if you look at the MotherBoard Monitor site here you will see a list of M'board manufacturers on the left hand side of the screen just click on your one and you should see your board listed with what each sensor does.

Idle at 35? Wish I could get that. My Duron 800 idles at 40, and it has a Thermaltake Mini Copper Orb on it. Case is not good though - not enough slots for fans... an Aopen KF-45A. Looks nice, though... LOL

I use both, VIA HM and MBM and neither of them have any problems running on XP. VIA HM is more convenient to use since you don't have sync it with the BIOS. As for MBM4, I need to use the "compensations" option in MBM to sync to the BIOS reading on some VIA chipset mainboards... |

Another option is Hmonitor. Runs well in XP in the latest version, supports the VIA thermistors, and has neat "transparent" icon in the tray with the CPU temp in it. Shareware thing.

My HSF is a CoolerMaster I forgot what the model is, CPU 1GhZ Thunderbird.
NDC, what version of VHM do you have and where did you get it? . Im using v2.5
Mickwish, I like that Hmonitor but it cost, I guess I can use it for a month.
Although on voltages it has the vcore in red, anything wrong with that? BTW the core is +1.78V |
