Memory test failed, Not enough Virtual Memory

Hi I have a MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition MB.

I get a Memory test Failed when booting.
I formatted an went to reload before I got the error or noticed it.
well I hit F1 an went on....an I get to where winXP is setting up an I get an error msg that says Not Enough Virtual Memory or Paging File Quota is Available to complete the specific operation.

I have pulled an put my ram chip back in...I have updated my Bios.

I got a new ram chip coming

Im running a AMD athlon 1400 with 256k

my harddrive is 80 gigs

someone pls tell me that its just the ram chip causing this problem lol

but incase its not....what else could cause this problem?

Virtual Memory is your swap file. Try booting Windows into Safe Mode and adjust your Swap File size.

When you say "memory test failed", do you mean during the initial boot process? When the bios is running the memtest? hmmmm. That's not good. Have you tried the ram in a different slot on the motherboard?

k I can't boot into safe mode cause I never got it completely loaded after it says not enough vitrual memory it automaticly reboots...it took me like 5 reboots to write down everything it said cause it went so fast.

an yes the memory test failed comes up after the bios runs....but I see the bios running the memory test an it gets all the way up to 266 or something then after ya see all the IDE devices it tells me that Memory test failed

You mean Memtest86? Just look for anything it displays on the screen. If it starts listing off a bunch of memory addresses then you got errors. Not much you can do about it. You could try lowering your performance settings for the ram in your bios. Go from CAS2 to CAS3, zero waitstate to 1 waitstate, etc. That *might* help, or it might not.

If it's listing more than a screenful of info then you got SEVERE problems. If it is the memory stick, then it's garbage.

But it could be the actual memory stick or it could be the motherboard, or it could even be the CPU (unlikely). There is no way for Memtest86, or any memory test, to know for sure. You could bring your stick of memory down to a local computer store and see if maybe they have memory tester.

On my MSI motherboard, you have the option in the BIOS of NOT completing the memory test during boot-up. Try disabling it by enabling "quick boot" in the BIOS. I forgot exactly what menu it's under at the moment.

But it sounds like you have bad and/or incompatible RAM... What kind/size of RAM is it?
