You did remove the SDR RAM for the attempt?
Consult your board manual. Some of those SDR/DDR boards required you to move one jumper, some had a long row of jumpers that all needed to be moved, and the rest auto-detected the RAM type. Clearing the CMOS to make BIOS revert to default settings might also be in order. |

The number 1 issue here is voltage.
SDRam = 3.3v
DDr = 2.5v
You need to be doubly sure this is autodetect by your mobo.
Number 2 issue is ram compatibility.
Your board may only boot with now obsolete PC1600/2100, or it may need a bios flash to accept later ram. http://www.asrock.com/support/Download/dl_k7vt2.htm
Last bios is V1.3. Check your bios boot screen to see what you're running.

I read your manual and it doesnt say anything about having to open or close a jumper. Make sure your installing the ram in one of the two slots on the left (the two closest to the cpu).
------
To clear your CMOS there are two solder points (#17 in diagram) that need to be connected for a short time. Unplug the computer from the wall socket, unfold a paper clip, and touch the two solder points together for a few seconds. |

If it boots with 3.3v SD, but not 2.5v DDR, it's not going to be power related.
Manual setting is via jumper,
Soft setting is via bios,
Autodetect is as it sounds: Auto. You do nothing.
For ram volt, if there's no jumper, it's auto detect, so you do nothing.
If it won't boot, it needs different brand/vintage/spec DDR ram.
(Or the ram is faulty, but it's more likely to be incompatible than faulty).
Have any of your friends got DDR you could borrow for a 5 minute boot test?
