clock/time goes haywire

yes I changed the battery and the clock still loses time like crazy. I even erased my hard drive and reloaded the software (xp) and it still happens. This started happening 4 months after the unit was new (HP Pavilion) and a new battery fixed it for a month or two and then it started happening again. Now a new batttery doesn't fix it. Do I need a new motherboard?

Thanks, Strawbs, but that posting didn't help. I changed my battery and I lose many minutes each hour, sometime whole days. Is there ever a hardware issue with time loss?

Historically, PC clocks have been notoriously inaccurate, even with a fresh battery.
I have often seen new or recent PCs that lose 5-10 minutes per day.
How much are you losing?

If you're overclocking it can sometimes make the issue much worse - the other thread provids links to software that automatically corrects the clock settings.

Thanks, I installed Rockettime and set it to hourly. My clock loses whole days if I pull the plug overnight. I'll keep an eye on the Rockettime log for a few days

Every few months, my clock will start going FORWARD in time. It will do that for a day or two then it will go back to the correct time.

I have still yet to find whats causing this.

Rockettime doesn't solve my problem because it updates my clock every hour based on my clock. The trouble is, my clock goes back 6 hours so it never gets to the time for updating. Is there a program that updates my clock based on the actual time rather than my clock time?
thx
