    Abit BL7 help / question....

    Hi,

    I have Abit BL7 Motherboard 400MHz FSB....

Currently have a 1.4Ghz P4 in it, was wondering if I could go up to a 2.8Ghz P4 (the 400Mhz FSB) version.

Detailed specs for the board are here: http://www.eteckusa.com/abit-bl7.html

Does anyone see why I could not use the 2.8Ghz chip in the board?

Many sites have stated 2.4GHz would be the max, but I assume that could be dated.

    THank you for your help.

Actually i don't think it will work. There are actually two socket types for the P4. A friend of mine has the old socket type and it's a 1.7, so i would bet that yours is too. Now i don't remember the exact changes in the socket, it might have just been how the heatsink attaches and not the pinout, so that's something you will need to verify.

no that is a s 478 board, imo the money would be better spent on a 800mhz capable board and a 2.4c

EDIT: nevermind i just realized its sd ram

    Yeah,

I know what I have is a 478 pin socket on my motherboard. But, apparently Intel makes a 2.8GHz 400MHz FSB CPU for the 478 boards.

    Check this out:

    What ya think?

They also show the CPU I am talking about on Intel's page:

    Model: SL7EY

I think if I got this chip, it would work just fine.

Can anyone answer my question about the 2.8 GHz chip that linked to?
