Abit NF7-S MB; Connecting USB printer disabled cardreader

I tried to plug in a USB printer to the lower rear USB slot (of two) and it disconnected the memory card reader (4 drive letters) that is plugged into the on board USB2 plug. The USB1 onboard plug is plugged into a supplied rear panel bracket with both ports open. Two on the rear panel, and two each connector on the MB makes 6 doesn't it?

This is a Abit NF7-S v2 MB running 2k w/sp4

I just installed the same mobo. Yes I have 6 USB 2.0 ports. Did you install the printer software before plugging in the cord? I have to do that with the 2 HP printers I have. Won't work right if you don't. Great Motherboard by the way.

2 usb ports on the back are 'shared' with the 2 on th mo/bo.
i can't remember which 2.
can you move the printer to another port? (not the one beside the one your're using at present)
