Help My Mobo Wont Post
I have an asus p5p800 with a pentium 4 3.0 and i recently upgraded my cdrom drives and when i when to turn my computer back on it turned on to the mobo screen then shut off because of what seems to be an overheat. it was not the cpu that seems to of overheated but the processor next to the pci slots!? now when i turn on my computer it sounds like its on but the cdrom makes a spin up noise and nothing appears on the screen!? Any one want to help me. thanks

Make sure all cables, memory, cards, etc. are firmly seated, you mat have knocked one loose while installing the drives. Is your PSU up to the task of handling more devices?

Holy smokes! That should do it if it's a good quality PSU.

Is the "processor next to the PCI slots" the chipset? Such as the Nforce2, Intel845PE, SiS746FX, etc.? It's possible that it overheated. But that rarely happens. There are chipset coolers available to help cool them. Try clearing the CMOS then rebooting.

CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) it's the actual chip where BIOS (basic input output system?) is stored. The terms are generally used interchangeably, maybe not right but acceptable.
size=1 rocks

The CMOS contains the basic configuration parameters of the BIOS. Clearing it will restore the basic settings of the BIOS. You will need to move a jumper on the motherboard or remove the CMOS battery to clear it. Look in your motherboard for it's location.

After locating the jumper in your motherboard manual, turn of your computer, unplug it from the power (wall) outlet. Move the jumper or remove the battery for a minute or so. Replace the jumper/battery, plug it back in, reboot and go into BIOS and load either Failsafe or Optimal defaults and you should be good to go.

The final legacy of the United States will be that in the end liberalism shamed & destroyed the heritage of this great nation. How sad as I see no turning back. When in Rome ..

It's locatation will be listed in your motherboard manual. Look for CMOS header in the motherboard diagrams.
