| Soltek SL-K890PRO-939 Parallel Port Cable
I recently ordered a Soltek SL-K890PRO-939 motherboard, but didn't realize until I received it that it didn't come with the "optional" parallel port cable/connector.
Does anyone know where I can purchase that cable in the US??
I know I could get a PCI to Parallel adapter card, but I would rather use the onboard controller than take up my last PCI slot.
Since when did a parallel port become optional on a motherboard anyway?? |

This is the response I got from Soltek tech support, when I asked where I could get the cable from. The cable he linked is listed as "for Qbic only", so I followed up to see if the same cable would fit the SL-K890PRO-939 mainboard. I was told that it would, but I have not yet purchased it - so I can't say for sure. And by the way, the cable looks very much like the Biostar one you linked. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how you would mount that in a typical mid tower ATX case. Thank you for contacting Soltek.
You can contact NCIX.com to order one, they carry the Parallel port cable. But you should notice the length of cable is 30CM,
we are not sure if it fits your request. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...facture=SOLTEK
Thanks and regards,

The shipping from NCIX.com in Canada to the US is about $16.00 US, plus the cost of the cable (about $6.00), and since it does not attach to case slot cover, I decided to pass on it.
I did some more searching and found a similar cable attached to a case slot cover like a normal add-in card. This one cost about $12.00 total including shipping. I don't know if the MB header pins are compatable, but I ordered it anyway and I am praying it fits. The cable is only about 10" long, but I think it will just barely reach. http://www.mycableshop.com/sku/PLATE9M25F.htm?x=23&y=16
I will post back as to whether it works, but it may not be for at least 10 days or so before I get all my parts and build my machine. |

You might want to check the pinouts, but the parallel port cables that used to come with BAT form factor boards might be the exact same. A dime a dozen at your nearest PC junkyard. |

m0002a - be sure to let me know if that cable works. I think I'm going to solve the problem by just getting a new printer & connect with USB. The thing has been having trouble feeding paper properly anyway. |

I should be able to let you know in a few weeks. If you don't hear from me by then, send me a message.
My HPIIIP laser printer is still going strong. I paid about $1,400 (including extra memory) for it in 1990. That is probably over $2,500 in today's dollars. Yikes!!! |

m0002a:
The other thing I found that might work is a USB to parallel adapter cable. They're about $30 at Best Buy, but Newegg has one for around $15.
Just another option to consider. |

Just another option to consider. | Yes that should work fine, but I was trying avoid doing that, simply becasue the USB devices use some power to drive them (although only a small amount).
The device I previously mentioned http://www.mycableshop.com/sku/PLATE9M25F.htm?x=23&y=16
does work fine, but the cable is a bit short and you probably have to use one of the PCI slots. I don't think the cable will reach over 2 PCI cards to fit into the PCI-E slot.
I also found this http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0170231
at MicroCenter. They also have several local stores around the country (including where I live). |

Thanks for the update. The picture of that adapter you linked from Microcenter made me realize that I just tossed one of those away a few weeks ago when I stripped down an old 386 computer. (Didn't think I'd ever need something like that)
Oh, well - I solved the problem by getting a new printer w/USB connectivity (actually, my company bought it for me, since I mainly use it for work) |
