Question
What do you think of the DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR

Can anyone recommend a good mobo for a first time builder, trying to research parts for a great system? I'm leaning toward the DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR.

I'll be going with an AMD Athlon 64 series, not sure which one yet.
I would appreciate any and all opinions, including suggestions for other boards.

how much are you looking to spend on your entire system? or do you have parts such as a vid card and a hard drive that you are going to use with this one? more info would be really helpful to us

If I could afford to build another PC, that seems like an excellent board to me. But what do I know
I say go for it !

U got it, gaming. I'm building it w/ my 12 year old son so it'll take a while, but i want soild performing components that'll last. One reason i'm looking @ this board is u can run 2 video cards, so i can add on later.

What cpu should i get, i heard AMD is coming out with a fx-57 ?

yes they are coming out with an FX-57, but the best out rgiht now for amd is the FX-55, my brother ownsa an FX-53 himself and that thing is fast as hell. The FX series are expensive but well worth it if you want to do heavy gaming. there was a bench mark on a site that shows that it takes a pentium 4 to be overclock to 5.2ghz to beat an FX-55 and beat it barely. heres the link http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1787/

but ya, thats the best out now anyways, what video card are you planning to run with that setup? and how many megs of ram?

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...roperty&DEPA=1

...but i don't know if i should go w/ the 6800, GT or Ultra. As for ram probably 2G, either
2 x 1024 or 4 x 512.

if I were in your postion i would go with a 6800ultra, and drop the 2gigs down to 1gig because thats plenty for any game out today and you will save yourself a lot of money that way. BUT, if you really want 2 gigs definately go with 2x 1024 sticks running in dual channel. Either way your going to need a pretty powerful PSU for this system to run, atleast a 430watt im pretty sure. also since you seem to be buying a "high end" system i would get a 10,000rpm hard drive just to make load times shorter and well just better

Thanks SoloCamo for the advice, i think i will go w/ the Ultra and start w/ 1g, can always add on later, right. I have not looked into hard drives yet, but would go for something fast. What do you know about raid 0, would the speed be noticeably faster?
