    AMR modem

    Greetings All
I have just assembled a PC using an ECS K7SEM mobo. This has an AMR slot and the board comes bundled with the appropriate modem card. After installing win98 and the drives from the board cd there is still no recognition of the AMR modem.....am I really missing a simple solution?

Make sure the AMR is in the slot securely. If possible, try this modem in another mobo, or try out another AMR.

Check the bios settings. Make sure the amr slot is not set disabled. There may or may not be a jumper also...

I tried the modem card in an almost identical PC Chips board...and it worked....also tried a modem in the PCI slot and it recognised that too...looks like it's back to the vendor with the ECS

Normally it goes like this - have the "chipset modem" (or similar) device at "auto" in BIOS. Then BIOS will enable the chipset's "Simple Communication Device" as soon as it detects an MC97 modem codec behind it (the latter is what's on your AMR card).

So you should be seeing that Simple Comms Device in your PCI device summary right before boot - in your particular case, that should be an SiS 7013. If it isn't there, then the board's BIOS does not detect the AMR card, or is set to Modem Disabled.

    regards, Peter
