problem: sound driver after BIOS update

I updated the BIOS on a Sony VAIO PCV-RX463DS from Sony's WMT-LE 1004
to Asus P4T-M 1005 to get 48-bit LBA support. After the BIOS update, I went
into the BIOS and loaded defaults. After booting W2K, the sound driver does
not work. I tried uninstalling SoundMAXWDM from Add/Remove Programs.
Upon reinstalling the audio driver from the Sony website, the installation
program says that the software driver has already been installed...
Any pointers to get the audio working? The color of the power LED on the
front panel is amber instead of blue...Crisis!

Thanks, from Harney

This is onboard sound right? Have you checked to see if the sound is disabled by default in the new bios?

problem: sound driver after BIOS update

Yepper, it is onboard sound Analog Devices.
BIOS shows Onboard AC97 Audio Controller [Auto]
The other option disables onboard sound.

When Windows starts, the Found New Hardware
dialog appears for Multimedia Audio Controller.
I tried several INF files that I coaxed out of
the EXE driver pack from the Sony web site,
but Windows did not accept any of them.
Trying to install the EXE driver pack leads to
the situation in the original post.

You may be able to find the driver you need at this site:

http://www.opendrivers.com/categoryc...-download.html

You will need to look at the chip on the motherboard for the correct version, i.e.
ALC658, ALC850, ALC202, etc.

Rock on. The third one that I downloaded worked.
I used AD1881A-2k_me_se.zip from DriverGuide
5.12.01.3029
