    notherboard question please

     
    when i hook up my usb port that are mounted on the front of my case, does it matter were i put them on the mobo and what order i put them in cause i got ones that say 5dc gound ect. and not sure were to put them but then there are pinouts that say usb under them os thas proly were they go right? and if i put them in wrong order with my mobo mess up ?yhnx, soory noob question

    Yes it does matter. It may not harm your motherboard but it can fry any USB device that you plug into the port. You need to look at your motherboard manual to see where each pin goes.

    If the board supports the addon front usb ports there will be two blocks where you will see
    some indicator as to which small connector plugs in to each pin. Usually you will have need
    fpr a small maginifying glass to be able to read the small print easier. On each "single wire"
    type connector look for the print there as well. One block for one usb port. If you goof up on
    the positions the voltages are too small too to cause any immediate damages. But any type
    of device connected simply will not work until the wiring is corrected. But you wouldn't want
    to leave miswired anyway. When you later plug something then the current is drawn.

    The best way to see if the wiring is correct is to plug a usb device you already know works.
    If the connectors have been plugged in correctly and the device still fails to work that would
    then be a need for an additional driver set for running devices there. Most of the newer OSs
    as well as motherboards should already have those drivers included with the installation cd.
